  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 â…“ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon Dutch process cocoa powder
  • Black and orange gel food color

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, cream the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract; mix well.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually combine with wet ingredients.
  4. Divide dough into two batches. Mix cocoa powder and black gel food color into one batch, and orange gel food color into the other.
  5. Portion each colored dough into pieces (about 2 teaspoons each). Chill for 15 minutes.
  6. Roll one piece of each color together to form a ball. Place on prepared sheets, baking for 12-15 minutes.
  7. Allow cookies to cool slightly before transferring them to a wire rack.
