  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce (divided)
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 large onion, sliced

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a bowl, combine 1 tablespoon soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil. Toss beef strips in the marinade and let sit for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Cook the Onions: Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté sliced onions until soft and caramelized (5-7 minutes). Remove from pan.
  3. Sear the Beef: Increase heat to high and add remaining vegetable oil. Stir-fry marinated beef for about 2-3 minutes until browned.
  4. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together remaining soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch. Pour over cooked beef and simmer until thickened.
  5. Combine & Serve: Return onions to the pan with beef and stir gently to coat. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
